Why this blog?

Why this blog?
Because what is portrayed in the media and which transpires in the general public's mind is that Africans flee their home countries for the USA, Europe, Asia or even within Africa, only to live in hardship abroad. The reasons: lack of or low education, poor language abilities for those in countries where the language is different than their original ones, legal status in limbo... Therefore they are mostly expected to stay confined into low level and odd jobs. Though these jobs provide for those doing them, the reality is very different for many others who overcome the obstacles to reach for higher grounds. This is where young Africans would learn about others' achievements and be inspired to do the same. Those looking for talented and ambitious Africans will also find a rich database to dig in. This site is interactive and all Africans are invited to honestly share their stories to show the side that some media never cover.

Max Essoh: Goldman Sachs, Yes he can!

                                           maxessoh@gmail.com

Max came to the USA in 2001 to pursue his collegiate education after graduating from military school in the Ivory Coast. After 2 years at Camden County College NJ, he transferred to Temple University, in Philadelphia, where he completed his Bachelor's degree in Accounting with honors. As a way to help pay for his education, Max had to hold several small jobs (often two at the same time) working as a cashier at gas stations and stores or even as a dishwasher at a restaurant. Remaining strong-minded about his academic and professional goals, Max, before graduation, was blessed with the opportunity to hold some short-term accounting roles at Bank of America, Blue Cross Insurances and the University of Pennsylvania. He then went on, right after graduating from college, to work for KPMG, one of the Big 4 accounting firms. After spending two years of intensive work as a financial audit associate at KPMG and passing the CPA exam, Max's efforts finally paid larger dividends when he was offered the opportunity to work at Goldman Sachs, one of the most reputable investment banks in the world. Max currently works as an auditor of Goldman Sachs's trading operations, he confesses that several times during this 10-year run, he got knocked down by various life challenges, however, he owes his success to faith in God, prayer, strength of mind and hard work. At his young age, Max remains modest as to how much he has been blessed with so far; he always looks forward to take on more challenges to become a better person, a distinguished professional and finally to set the right example for his two wonderful children.
